I didnt really read much into it as I think green is the nation colour of Ireland ... shamrocks are green ,lepricorns wear green etc ..

The same thing happened last year, but they used something like "you might get lucky" and people were screaming about how it might be double gold drops.
Just check this thread, only special drops are problably consumable items, but that's it. Otherwise ANet would specifically say so...
